Waiting I was, I had always been,
The question was always for what
A moment, a feeling, opportunity perhaps,
While the answers, I know, I had already got
I waited for change in my life and it came,
Then wished it would go away
Realized this change, I did not want,
Then wished and waited
To have my old way
While waiting for sun in a midday storm,
The beauty of rain was missed
To close the umbrella and dance carefree,
While on my skin, by its droplets I’m kissed
I once waited for summer in winter,
That was the year I missed the spring
Missed all the flowers with scent of new life,
Missed the birds when to me,
They did sing
Waiting for morning I missed my dreams,
As I laid awake that night
Daybreak came, the stars had gone,
No fairytale visions from sleep came to sight
When I waited for love and I got it,
Waited so long till it came
I just couldn’t believe that I had it,
And then waited to be left,
All alone once again
To wait on the words “I love you”
With my ears open, but eyes then shut
I missed all your gestures, clues, the signs,
That showed me you loved me,
And just how much
Sadder than rain, love, spring and dreams,
Was waiting to grow, with my years hurried through
During that time the most precious was missed,
I lost sight of the joy, of my very own youth

Wow! Great piece, Heather! I think living in the moment becomes more important with realization of the fewer moments we have left to count.

Thank you, Laine! I think it is waiting, wants and expectations can be a very dangerous tool that robs us of not being able to appreciate what we have. Yes, the now and the moment!!!!

Beautiful poem Heather. It captures so well how we go through life and in our hurry miss the best moments as they pass by.

Beautiful, story of our lives at different times. You’re words flow softly and hit part of the heart and brain where they come together. You are a great writer, you have a gift. We are so blessed when we have a gift we can share with others. I hope life is treating you kind and not to wrapped up in the long list we all have of to do’s. Take care my friend.

Hi Heather, not yet, I’m a couple of days behind. New meds kicked my pretty good. Feeling better today and plan to read. I’ll let you know the differ if any. I can’t wait to here your voice. We don’t usually get the chance. I talked to Paola, my Twim P on the phone last week for the first time. Have a great day. I want to talk with you about all you have on your plate but I’ll do it offline via email.

Incredibly beautiful. I truly was touched. You constructed the poem so well, like an architect designing a building. It may not yet be your masterpiece, but it is a great step along the way. Kudos.

🙂 Thank you. A very fine compliment! Ah, masterpiece….designed by oh so very few. I’ve made a step when I can look back and think “wow, I like this one…can’t believe I wrote it” and take solace in that alone 🙂

A poem inspired by your poem….
why wait?
there is so much out there,
willing to be explored
why wait?
say hi to the cute person,
you never know what’s in store
why wait?
your dreams are attainable,
you just have to reach for them
why wait?
stop holding back your emotions
let them pour out of you soul
why wait?
when there is so much left to give
why wait, when you can go?
