Guilty,
Of letting
My thoughts
Occupy my heart
Without giving them
The attention
That they
Craved
Guilty,
Of chasing
Them away without ever
Even asking why they were here
So I could take pen to paper
With hand and
Help
Guilty,
Of missing
The feelings that
They had tried to share
While they squatted
With patience
Eagerly
Guilty,
Of denying
Hungry thoughts
A safe place within
My head to
Feed
Guilty,
Of not allowing
My mind to listen when
My heart just needed to speak
This is just the life
Of a Poets
Guilt
Well put, Heather.

Thank you very much for the kindness. Don’t worry, I’ve turned the comments off for a while. I’m very busy writing and can’t spare the necessary time.

Wondeful play with the lenth of the lines. Makes the poem go a bit farther in expression. Brilliantly done.

I think guilt is a wicked muse…it sometimes motivates or inhibits (depending on its mood) for the wrong reasons. Perhaps that’s why guilt has its own special name. You found the perfect phrasing for the sensibilities guilt clings to… Beautiful poem, Heather.
AnnMarie 🙂
I know without ‘guilt’ many moms (me included) would be at a loss for words 😉

🙂 Yes, Ann Marie!!! And the guilt of letting words go by is like the guilt of having an image and then not drawing it…how I’d miss all your critters and creations 🙂

Missed you, but it happens sometime. As the seasons change, I feel especially vulnerable. Great come back though, Heather. You poet’s heart wrote it well 🙂

In all honesty Laine, I’m flattered that you even noticed me missing ❤ The season is a rough one here and staying away didn't bring me any sun, and not writing just made it worse. You are truly a light!!!! :*

Oh, so that’s what it’s called “poet’s guilt?”
It was there a minute ago, I’m sure it will come back around only it won’t be exactly the same.

Lesson learned, Anthony. I will keep it at bay from now on 🙂

I also tend to drift in and out at this season, but as one of the newer poets that I have been following, know that you are missed when you are gone.

I meant dear heather that I too have experienced this but did not have a term for it, I found it very interesting and true:)

The term came very spontaineously, that is how I knew that it must be that 🙂 Peter left a very worth your time comment. Being hung between guilt and grace. I am just glad you felt right away what I meant 🙂 …H.

great poem. As a poet, I sometimes feel guilt for being a bit of an “imposter”, in that my life is too good for me to be “real” poet. 🙂

🙂 I love the way you said that! It is true though, we do write the best the lower we are 😉 Touché….and THANK you, Bryan !
