I’ve never had anyone
Reach out and take my hand
I’ve never had anyone
Perhaps just once or twice
I’ve never had anyone
To tell me that I’m good
I’ve never had anyone
To tell me I’d suffice,
To become once something worthy,
To being something grand
I’ve never had anyone
That lent a helping hand
The walk alone was painful
But a blessing in disguise
Traveling with empty hands
Life learned through my own eyes
“Thank you for the hand not given”
I can now reflect and say
Despite life paved with broken glass
I’ve found myself, my way
It is always the stranger’s hand helps you navigate the whitewater, the stranger whose name you cannot recall and whose face you cannot remember when you step from the boat onto the dock . . .
