The Starting End

Slipping down the slide through memories of my mind,
Going as deep as I could
A woman’s green eyes,
Her hair a calm red
Before me there she stood

With something laying at her feet
Small, a wiry black
All curled up, her name was Jetta,
I do remember that

She was my first childhood friend,
Albeit with four legs not two
Accompanying the every move of my days,
Keeping me safe as I welcomed, the night to my room

As I slid a bit further, another memory opened,
I’d grown up quite a bit more
But now it was Jetta who needed a friend,
As she laid silent on the floor

I couldn’t understand, I was still quite young
That she now needed sleep, instead of our fun
I looked into her eyes and I saw her soul,
It begged for forgiveness for growing old

On my bed I would lift her and hold her tight,
I would tell her and promise it would be alright
That it’s my turn now to look out for her,
While stroking and loving her wiry black fur

“You were with me since my beginning of time,
I will be with you till your end”
I never knew that life could finish,
Especially the one of my very first friend

Dark door future past, I fell into next,
When I learned immortality
Jetta had gone to the Doctor that day
She, I’d not again see

I miss you today, my Jetta,
My friend
I’m happy I know how to slide,
Through my mind where memories patiently wait,
To awaken and bring you alive
