I don’t believe there’s a heart that is cold,
Can’t let you in and can’t understand
For that’s just a heart, crafted with faith,
That one too many, chose to aband

Show me a person who doesn’t need love,
Contradict, easily I will
Like believing a homeless man doesn’t want shelter,
Preferring the bite, of a deep winters chill

Is there a person who doesn’t yearn Home?
Ask a soldier the truth, while in a bunker he hides
It’s as pure and natural as that of,
The shore patiently waiting, the return of its tide

While there’s a smile upon my face
It doesn’t mean that I have lost sight,
Of pain that traveled a solo road,
Until once again, trading shadows for light

So come out of your shell and show yourself,
Your heart so soft, expose
As I’ll be your shelter, your love and warmth,
Safeguarding the trust, you in me, bestow

Extend your soul from its deepest self
Meeting sorrow while not fearing pain
Place your feet in their shoes of sadness,
Accepting tears as moments, of emotional rain
Tire your ears as you unscramble words
Hearing truly, just with your heart
You’ll reach the threshold of empathy, if you’re willing to give it a shot

The Waiter

Waiter-taking-order-006
There we were at the table for four,
My wife and two kids
Who could ask for more?

Except life wasn’t all,
That you would think
The waiter came round,
Saw I needed a drink

As his eyes met mine
Before anything said,
He acknowledged the madness
Running round my head

My wife is complaining I work too much,
She sees me an hour a night
But in the same breath she questions me
About summer vacation,
With our Business Class flight

My Daughter is texting her BFFL,
Not one word to me has she spoke
My son, fighting the Angry Birds,
Hyper, while sipping his third round of Coke

I am exhausted and just want to sleep
The stress of the day,
Flowing through my mind

I ask for the bill and pay my tab,
Wondering if,
This Family’s mine

Silent Technology

The drag of a cigarette deeper,
Than conversation at the bar
Propped up on stools of leather worn out
From days when people were alive and about

Obscured by the people adjacent to them,
Eyes steady and focused
On their cell phone

It is a pity this day, and not a wonder that,
So many claim to feel so alone

Texting words that lack
The warmth of a voice

The fingers, quickly press on

A satellite transport for human connection,
This silent technology
Is troublesome

No longer the setting to close out your day
For a quick talk, a “How do you do”
Throw back a drink with a perfect stranger,
Have a smile, a laugh,
It all seems now taboo

“What’ll you have” were the only words
I recall hearing last night
“A glass of red” was all I spoke,
As I sat back to observe
This saddening plight

My Thanks to an Angel

God has chosen another flower of Beauty,
One to bring back home
Dear Angel so new, that our paths never crossed,
May I please thank-you now
For your wonderful Son?

He accepted his role as a Man today,
With strength beyond years of eighteen
You taught him so much in a very short time,
The essentials of life and what it should mean

As you passed slowly
Into the light,
His world lost color, it turned shortly dark

His garden felt empty,
Its colors, bare
But just why you went,
He could accept in his heart

Glistening stars in the evening sky,
Presence of rainbows,
Just after a storm
Are just some of the signs you’ll give to him,
That you’re now at peace,
And never so far from home

He knows that you’ll,
Hear his whispers, his prayers
As when you lived, like all Fathers do

You’ll not forsake in his hardest times
That your love is eternal as,
His love is for you

It is an honor to have him here in our lives,
This gift, that you did create
Trust that we’ll look out for him here,
On the opposite side
Of Heaven’s Gate

Written for my Daughters Boyfriend who lost his Dad Saturday night to brain cancer. His strength and faith has gone above and beyond anything I have ever witnessed, He himself, is angelic.

Budget Bordeaux

It is said that a Woman, will prove her devotion,
To a Man when he’s nothing to give
And the Mans devotion to Woman, when he has risen above,
Has it all, and with her,
Still chooses to live

When together you sail a fictitious boat,
Through high waters, desperate for land
Offer him hope through the crashing waves,
When lifes course doesn’t change on command

Feed his ego, with all the love that you feel,
Enjoy a bottle of budget Bordeaux
Let his confidence rest, somehow peacefully,
Knowing you’ve no plan to go

When the time comes that he’s, spotted land,
And the waves are like silk through a breeze,
His navigator shows a steady path,
Towards good fortune, fine life,
The dream now he sees

The dark seas have been swapped, for city lights
A sudden no care in the world
Bills are paid, the champagne flows,
The old Sails become now, safely furled

Sailor and Damsel, I have a word,
One to share with you
The lesson of love you’ve learned out there,
Keep it fresh and always,
Keep it in view

Don’t forget the year of trying times,
The one that you chartered,
Not long ago
Don’t forget to tell each other,
You’d be fine,
As long as together, sharing budget Bordeaux

Mike’s Look at Life was gracious enough to allow me work with his photography. I thank you, Mike. I hope you will pay him a visit.

bw-window

I’ve grown old now,
I have closed the hatch,
My door is no longer walked through
I hope that I, have served you well,
Before these days of my solitude

From a weak eye I see, out of my shell,
At times memories, overwhelm
Parched grass becomes green,
Dead trees blossom fruit
With the colors of past, I remember so well

I smell the air too, as when I was Spring
Then my Children, just years past their birth,
When cries were a joy to a Mothers ear,
Receiving laughter and love,
It was all of my worth

I turned one day, to see you had grown
That same day, I saw I had too
Bittersweet tears,
Marked the moment
When I knew moving on, was what you must do

I now create, sound from silence,
Conversations from objects in sight
I comfort myself,
With thoughts of you,
On sunshine filled days, as well as dark nights

Passive I sit, I am winter in body
Ironic it’s snowing outside
Active my memories, warming my heart,
Loneliness melts,
As I reflect on my life

Poets Guilt

Guilty,
Of letting
My thoughts
Occupy my heart
Without giving them
The attention
That they
Craved

Guilty,
Of chasing
Them away without ever
Even asking why they were here
So I could take pen to paper
With hand and
Help

Guilty,
Of missing
The feelings that
They had tried to share
While they squatted
With patience
Eagerly

Guilty,
Of denying
Hungry thoughts
A safe place within
My head to
Feed

Guilty,
Of not allowing
My mind to listen when
My heart just needed to speak
This is just the life
Of a Poets
Guilt

Woke Within a Stranger

Posted by Heather's Starting End on November 25, 2014

I’m sure, we have all woken up this way once or twice in our lives….

images (5)

I woke up to a Tuesday,
I’ve done this thousands of times before
But something about this wakening,
Has strained me to the core

I woke within a strangers thoughts,
The night must have stolen my mind
My head is aching, my body weak,
Rational thoughts, I cannot find

I didn’t sense me leaving,
I didn’t feel this come
How could it be, 2nd day in the week,
That I have come undone

Plan A has gone straight passed plan B,
Now to create C
To remove, foreign mind occupation,
Using strength with strategy

Where is the logic, who flipped the switch?
Who took rational away?
Who created this war, internal struggle,
And let a stranger invade my day

Not wanted to build, but the walls are up,
Reaction of defense
Defending now my peace of mind,
As protection to these events

So take a hike, you thoughts so crazed,
As I, take a breath so deep
And exhale so hard and blow you out,
Putting me, back on my feet

Aurora Must Wait, The Ice Hotel Challenge

Posted by Heather's Starting End on November 20, 2014
Posted in: creative writing, love, poem, poetry, poetry blog. Tagged: aurora borealis, deerskin blankets, nature, night of love, northern lights, poems, poetry, rendezvous, sleigh ride, The Ice Hotel. Leave a comment

An enjoyable challenge given by The Poets Corner
ice-hotel-restaurant

The place quite chilling, like sanitized cold,
At the end of the world it is found
T’was there we would meet for our rendezvous,
With Dogs pulling sleigh, for the travel I’m bound

Ice Hotel I’ve now entered, a labor of love,
Sculpted with natures free gift
Sheer beauty, frost blanket, steaming with chill,
Corner table, with candle, he greeted my wish

His eyes cast a brown on the ice that seemed blue,
The first shiver, shocked my skin
Soon covered in blankets of deerskin for armor,
Our rendezvous, now would begin

The bite in the air lessened with time,
As the flame in my heart grew wild
The sculptured ice blocks that we sat upon,
Seemed to melt as our plan was compiled

To retrieve to the quarters where we would lay,
Our own light this night to create
Perhaps tomorrow we’ll venture out,
But for now, Aurora Borealis must wait
