Just where would you say that you are right now?
Your body tells me,
That you’re right here
But your mind is floating, way out there,
Somewhere not even, remotely near

Out there somewhere from long ago,
Your mind still buried in thought
You poor old thing, just why can’t you learn,
When the lessons already been taught

But like a child whose balloon has just broke,
You sit there and hide, your tears as you choke
Pretending it’s nothing, nothing at all
While in true life, you never rose from that fall

Insult me with nothings, that is just grand
Deny my heart, what it truly deserves
Proclaiming it’s me you want to be near
Never have I heard something more absurd

My color of future and yours of the past
So sorry Dear one, but they really don’t match

Like a lone piece, from a worn out puzzle,
In a new one, it has no place

This game of yours,
Holding on to old pieces
If you want this new puzzle,
Get your head out of space

Rainbows Other Side

I crave to know you your mystery
Let me in and show me why,
You hide behind a smiling face
Behind your eyes, tears cry

I wish to know why you won’t,
Open up, let demons out
Stop protecting them and hiding them,
As they toss your life about

Tainted laugher, timid joy
Faux pas, your love of life
Sullen soul that lives within,
Your worlds perfect disguise

Housing demons in your mind,
That rob you of your spark
As life remains a futile state,
Chasing rainbows in the dark

Flush them out with waterfalls,
Of tears, outside not in
Scream your pain out loud and clear,
Leave nothing left within

For you there’ll be a pot of gold
On rainbows other side,
Once you teach these demons that,
In you they can not hide

What are the thoughts that go through our mind when our young Adult child tells us they are ready to move out and move on? I was surprised when I tried to word my thoughts. I honestly didn’t realize I was that far- that I had been preparing for this for 21 years.

Is it really me that needs to let go?
Opening doors to the future,
That I did,
…Long ago

I let go the day
You took your first step,
Let go that day,
You walked alone to school

I let go that day
You said you knew that you could,
As I watched you jump in
The deep end of the pool

I let go when I saw
You’d found your first love,
And let go again,
When you had your first kiss

Let go when that took
The piece of your heart,
Now gone, once mine,
For your new loves sweet bliss

I let go of time,
Just to watch you grow
Yes, I did,
I did,
I did let go

Each step of the way,
Piece by piece,
Knowing this time must come

I let go to let you
Become yourself,
I let go to allow you,
To turn in to someone

Who could take the steps,
On your own,
Gathering courage, to once venture,
Out all alone

I did let go,
With each second, each day
While holding my breath,
That you’d find the right way

So the matter today,
Is not me, but you
I have let go,
But can you
Let go too?

The Bridge of Hope

He’s still standing on the bridge of hope,
Far away is his soul, clung to the past
Uncommitted to life and what it is now
Wanting only, what didn’t last

Those dear times of ago, he will keep her alive,
In mind snapshots, dates and calls
While hearing her memories again and again
In the tunes of their favorite songs

Comfort in past, comfort in pain
Comfort in loss of a dream
Discontent in a future that wasn’t carved out
Where there is absence of her name

He’ll look past your eyes when memories strike,
Eyes sullen, while caught deep in thought
He’ll try and tell you that all is alright,
Intuition tells you it’s not

He will tell you he loves you, which could be true,
While holding you tight through the night
But when the lights go down and he closes his eyes,
He’s still missing the one who he can’t call his wife

One day your senses will rise like the sun,
The truth, not blind to see
Your world will come crashing while blissful he sleeps,
“The one he longs for, isn’t me”

He’ll fight with belief “It just isn’t so!”,
And promise that it’s only you
Only you, yes, that fills both time and space,
While his heart, his past love pursues

So just walk away and swallow your pride,
In truth, there is nothing lost
But a Man that lives in his memory,
Still fighting for her, at your cost
